The Georgia Cancer Registry (GCR) is recruiting a candidate for a Senior Quality Control Editor position in the central cancer registry. This person will perform tasks in the collection and management of cancer data from multiple reporting sources: hospitals, outpatient surgical facilities, laboratories, radiation therapy and medical oncology facilities, hospices, nursing homes, pharmacies and physician offices. The GCR is a statewide registry that participates in both the NCI Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program and the CDC’s National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR).

Senior Quality Control Editor - Job Description

  • Determine reportability of incoming records
  • Match incoming data to existing registry records and apply multiple primary rules
  • Visually edit and consolidate complex medical and clinical data from multiple sources to ensure complete and high-quality cancer data
  • Resolve computerized edits, reconciling inconsistencies and correcting errors. Initiate follow back with the reporting source if necessary to clarify information or obtain additional information.
  • Participate in focused quality control activities of registry data
  • Assist as needed in abstracting and coding clinical data from multiple patient medical records and laboratory reports
  • Assist as needed with case finding or re-abstraction audits
  • Perform death clearance resolution
  • Participate in educational workshops, seminars, and individual training sessions

Possible travel both in and out of state of residence for professional development.

This position allows telecommuting



Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience in tumor registry, medical records, or nursing. Candidate should have the ability to prioritize and productively manage time to ensure compliance with numerous deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience working in a tumor registry, preferably a Central Registry.
  • Knowledge and experience with cancer computer software: Prefer experience editing/consolidating using SEER*DMS although not required. 
  • Knowledge of national cancer registry guidelines and proficiency using reference materials
  • Experience working both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and ensure compliance with numerous deadlines.
  • Ability to consolidate and edit complex medical reports

Education

  • Associates Degree in nursing, the life sciences or other relevant field, or degree from a National Cancer Registrars Association approved degree program. Two semesters of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Certified Tumor Registrar
