Description

Purpose and Objectives

AIHA® and ACGIH® are searching for an editor-in-chief (EIC) for the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (JOEH), a peer-reviewed publication devoted to enhancing the knowledge and practice of occupational and environmental health and safety represented by the two societies. The EIC is a one-year position with a renewable contract.

Since 2004, JOEH has published peer-reviewed research studies that examine exposures, risks, and controls that can be used to understand how exposures relate to health outcomes, and how these can be managed to the betterment of society. JOEH publishes studies across a range of investigation types, including laboratory investigations, field studies, simulations, and secondary data analyses. Stressors relating to adverse health outcomes are the main focus of the JOEH, including chemical, biological, radiation, noise, ergonomics, and psychosocial hazards, including how work-life organization affects these exposures.

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Ensure timely publication of high-quality manuscripts of interest to the occupational and environmental hygiene community.
  • Remain abreast of trends in occupational and environmental hygiene.
  • Work within a content management system (ScholarOne) to review submitted manuscripts and assign peer reviewers.
  • Communicate with authors, reviewers, and readers.
  • Participate in meetings of the JOEH Board of Directors (three or four per year).
  • Meet annually with the JOEH Editorial Review Board.
  • Manage an editorial assistant. (Note: An assistant, while not required, is strongly recommended based on input from the current EIC.)

Selection Process

A selection committee appointed by the JOEH LLC Board president will review applications, conduct interviews, and recommend a candidate to the full Board. The selected candidate is expected to begin work on or around Nov. 1, 2022, and will work in tandem with the current EIC for approximately two months. The new EIC will work independently beginning Jan. 1, 2023.

By June 30, 2022, email your CV or resume to Ed Rutkowski, AIHA's director of periodicals. In a separate document, please provide answers to the following questions:
